Image Provenance Function For Photo Authenticity.

The Nikon Authenticity Service1 allows you to embed C2PA-compliant provenance data into photos at the time of shooting by applying for a digital certificate on Nikon Imaging Cloud in advance2, providing photographers a secured way to confirm a photo’s originality and credibility. This provenance data includes trusted metadata—such as the date, time, Nikon camera used, to verify the image’s source.

Furthermore, if C2PA-compliant editing software is used, you can add the editing provenance while retaining the shooting provenance, to validate that misleading edits have not been made3.

1 Only available in selected countries as of 27 August 2025. Additionally, registration with Nikon Imaging Cloud and an application for usage are required.
2 Some performance, such as the maximum number of shots in continuous shooting, will be restricted when the provenance function is enabled.
3 In-camera editing and Nikon apps (desktop and mobile) are not supported for adding provenance data.
